Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - With the help of three two-run homers, the Beloit Snappers (14-12) slugged their way to an 11-6 win over the Lansing Lugnuts (8-18) on Saturday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
The Snappers tallied 10 runs against Lugnuts starter Alonzo Gonzalez (Loss, 1-2) in the first three frames, capped by two-run blasts by Renato Nunez in the third, and John Wooten and Matt Olson in the fourth.
In total, Gonzalez allowed 10 runs - seven of them earned - on eight hits in 3.1 innings of work. He struck out three and walked one.
The Lugnuts bats did not fail to keep things interesting though, scoring five runs against Beloit starter Raul Alcantara (Win, 4-1). Alcantara threw six innings and because of three errors behind him, only allowed two earned runs. He struck out three and walked one.
In the loss, Lugnuts second baseman Christian Lopes went 4-for-5 at the plate, driving in a run and scoring a pair himself. Lopes leads Lansing with 10 multi-hit games this season and it was the first four-hit game by a Lugnut hitter this year.
Gustavo Pierre blasted his fourth home run of the season in the seventh inning, going 2-for-5 with two more RBI as well for Lansing.
After being received from Extended Spring Training on Thursday, Justin Jackson made his professional pitching debut for the Lugnuts, throwing 2.2 innings out of the pen. Jackson, a former first supplemental round pick in 2007 as a shortstop, allowed a run on two hits, striking out one Snappers hitter.
The middle game of the series comes Sunday at 5:05 p.m. on a Kids Day at Cooley Law School Stadium. Fans can enjoy $1, $2 and $3 specials on the concourse in honor of Cinco de Mayo. Right-hander Taylor Cole (1-2, 4.44) will take the mound for Lansing against Beloit right-hander Michael Ynoa (0-0, 1.29).
