Trenton Thunder News Release

(Trenton, NJ) - Trenton tied its season high with 11 runs and Brett Marshall pitched six more shutout innings as the Thunder shutout the Erie SeaWolves, 9-0, to complete a three-game series sweep Thursday night in front of 5,316 fans at Waterfront Park and give Manager Tony Franklin his 999th career regular-season victory. With its fourth series sweep of the season, Trenton (29-22) finishes the month of May with an 18-10 record, the best of any team in the Eastern League.

Cody Johnson (league-leading 14th) and Luke Murton (6th) each homered for the Thunder, which collected 15 hits against five Erie pitchers and scored in all but two innings. Leading 2-0 in the third, Johnson crushed a two-run bomb to right against SeaWolves starter Zack Segovia (5-5) on a 3-2 pitch.

That was more than enough for Marshall (6-2), who pitched shutout baseball for the fourth time in his last five starts and lowered his ERA to 2.44. He pitched around six hits and a walk, getting help in the fourth from right-fielder Damon Sublett who threw out a runner at home plate on a fly out.

Trenton has matched its longest winning streak of the season at four straight and moves a season-high seven games above the .500 mark. The Thunder improved to 7-2 against the SeaWolves this season with a three-game series to be played next week at Jerry Uht Park.

The Thunder received a three-hit night from Abraham Almonte and two-hit games from Corban Joseph, David Adams, Murton and Kevin Mahoney. Adams, Johnson, Murton and Jose Gil each drove in a pair of runs.

The Thunder begin a four-game series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Friday at 7:05 pm when they will go for a season-high fifth straight win and try to give Franklin career win #1,000. Left-hander Vidal Nuno (0-1, 0.00) is slated to start for Trenton and be opposed by lefty Brett Cecil (3-2, 3.71).
