SERIES AT A GLANCE: The Flying Squirrels will aim for a series victory when they take on the Altoona Curve in the finale of a three-game series at Peoples Natural Gas Field tonight. After falling behind 3-0 through one inning of play last night, the Flying Squirrels rebounded and built a 5-3 lead on the way to an eventual 5-4 triumph over the Curve. Ryan Cavan went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBIs and Juan Perez smacked a solo home run to pace the Richmond offense. Meanwhile, Richmond starter Craig Westcott (5-4) recovered from a rocky first inning, which saw the Curve post three runs on the scoreboard, and allowed just one additional run in the ballgame. He allowed four earned runs on six hits in 5.1 innings pitched and earned his fifth win of the season. Jake Dunning and Brett Bochy combined to toss 3.2 innings of scoreless relief, with Bochy picking up his sixth save in eight chances. The Flying Squirrels went 9-8 against Altoona in 2011 including a 5-6 mark in Altoona. Richmond is 24-30 all-time against the Curve and the club is 11-19 all-time at Peoples Natural Gas Field. The two teams will meet 21 times in 2012, 14 times in Altoona and 7 times in Richmond. Richmond won three of the first four games between the two teams at The Diamond (4/12-/4/15) and Altoona took two out of three from the Squirrels in an abbreviated three-game series in Altoona (4/19-4/22).
Altoona took three of four from Richmond at Peoples Natural Gas Field earlier this month (5/4-5/6). Following this three-game series, the Flying Squirrels and the Curve will meet again in Richmond in mid-July (7/16-7/18).
