LANCASTER, Pa. - The Sugar Land Skeeters offense snapped out of a cold spell on Thursday, pushing across a season-high eight runs and breaking a four-game losing streak by fending off the Barnstormers, 9-5, at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster. The win boosts Sugar Land's record to 11-16 on the season while Lancaster falls to 10-17 on the year.

Matt Wright picked up his third win on the season, improving to 3-0. The right-hander went 5.0 innings, allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits and three walks while striking out seven in the winning effort.

Delwyn Young blasted his second home run of the 2015 campaign for Sugar Land in the top of the third to break the scoring seal in the contest.

The Lancaster Barnstormers launched a long-ball of their own in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game before stringing together a slew of hits to take the lead. Blake Gailen led off the inning with a solo shot off Wright. Brian Cavazos-Galvez singled and moved up to third after Chris Garcia reached on a fielder's choice that first baseman Travis Scott threw away on the throw to second base. Juan Apocado drew a walk on Wright's 3-2 offering to load the bases. After a strikeout, Brandon Jones notched a RBI single and Lance Zawadzki lifted a sacrifice fly to right, giving the Barnstormers a 3-1 cushion in the fourth.

Sugar Land offense pushed across seven runs in the top of the fifth after loading the bases with no outs. Denny Almonte singled to kick off the inning before stealing second. Willy Taveras was hit by a pitch and Scott drew a walk. Young picked up his second RBI of the night by taking a four-pitch walk with the bases-loaded, cutting into the deficit, 3-2, and chasing Lancaster starter, Marcus Walden from the game. With Pete Andrelczyk on the mound, Chris Wallace ripped a one-out single to tie the game and Beamer Weems gapped a two-run double into the alley, reclaiming the lead for Sugar Land, 5-3. Following a Kevin Russo groundout, Patrick Palmeiro deposited a two-run single, staking the Skeeters to a 7-3 advantage. Almonte reached base for the second time in the inning, this time via the walk and Taveras reached on an error by the third basemen, bringing across Palmeiro for the seventh run in the frame.

The seven runs in the fifth inning was the largest single-inning run total this season for the Skeeters and more runs than Sugar Land had scored in the previous four games combined.

After the big inning for the Skeeters, Wright provided a shutdown inning in the bottom of the frame, issuing a walk to Gailen, but inducing a pair of groundouts and a flyout to keep the Barnstormers off the scoreboard.

The Barnstormers would chip into the lead in the bottom of the seventh, with a single run, but Sugar Land would respond after a leadoff single and stolen base from Almonte. Scott elevated a pitch to center, deep enough for the speedy outfielder to come in and score from third. Lancaster would again cut away at the lead in the bottom of the eighth, but Skeeters pitching snuffed out any form of a comeback, as the team snapped its four-game losing streak, 9-5.
