Camden Riversharks News Release

Camden, NJ - A long solo homerun off the bat of Joel Guzman was the rally starter the Riversharks needed in their 3-1 series win Thursday night over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.

Down 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Guzman picked the perfect time to hit his first homerun of the season, a line drive that flew out of Campbell's Field in a matter of milliseconds.

Carlos Guzman, the following batter, reached on a single and advanced to third base after singles by Nathaniel Coronado and Michael Rockett. With the bases loaded, shortstop Brandon Chaves grounded out to first base scoring Carlos Guzman to take the 2-1 lead.

A strong night in general for the designated hitter, Joel Guzman's night did not end with his homerun, as he also added an RBI single to his stat line later in the game.

Riversharks starter Sean Gleason had a good night on the mound striking out five batters while allowing only one run on six hits and zero walks. Gleason picked up his second win of the year improving his record to 2-2.

To further cement the victory, Evan Crawford added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning. After Chaves stroked his second double of the game and reached third on a wild pitch, Crawford hit a single to right field to bring him home.

Matt Gorgen closed the door on the Blue Crabs, retiring the side in order, for his eighth save of the season.

Up next for the Riversharks is a four-game weekend series with the Long Island Ducks, before heading back home for a four-game series against the Revolution.
