(Bridgeport, Conn. - May 21, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (14-12) were defeated by the Somerset Patriots (17-9) at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, New Jersey, 5-3 on a three-run home run by Chris Marrero off Tim Gustafson in the bottom half of the seventh inning. Somerset won three of four games from the 'Fish in the midweek series between Liberty Division foes.
The 'Fish got on the board first in the top half of the first inning when Idemaro Vargas scored on an RBI single by Nick Van Stratten. Bridgeport would double the lead to 2-0 in the same inning when Van Stratten stole third base and came in on a throwing error by catcher James Skelton. The 'Fish would once again take a two-run lead in top half of the fifth inning, 3-1, on an RBI single by Sean Burroughs, scoring Van Stratten.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Parker Frazier picked up a no-decision in five innings of work, allowing five hits and two runs (one earned run), walking two and striking out five. Somerset Starting Pitcher Randy Boone was also tagged with a no-decision, pitching six innings, giving up five hits and three runs, walking one and striking out four. Kyler Newby was victorious in relief (4-0), pitching one scoreless inning, allowing one hit. Gustafson (0-2) suffered the loss for Bridgeport, pitching one inning, surrendering one hit and three runs, walking two and allowing one home run. Jon Hunton closed the door in the top of the ninth inning for his fifth save. Burroughs led the way for Bridgeport with three hits.
The 'Fish are back home at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday, May 22nd when they host the Sugar Land Skeeters to open up a four game Memorial Day Weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
