Swift Current Broncos News Release
Goals came in bunches for the Swift Current Broncos for a second consecutive night but there just wasn't enough time left as the Broncos got to within a single goal but were on the wrong end of a 5-4 loss.
Moose Jaw struck first shortly after puck drop with Brecon Wood netting the goal but Swift Current responded as Alec Zawatsky potted the tying goal towards the end of the first. For the Yorkton, SK product, he continues to have the hot hand, being his third goal in two games.
Warriors forward Tristin Langan made it 2-1 Moose Jaw with one second left before the intermission horn.
Langan then scored twice more in the second period to complete the natural hat trick and it was 4-1 Moose Jaw through 40 minutes with the shots on goal indicating 30-17 for the Warriors.
Swift Current regrouped and came out for a strong third period. Connor Horning pocketed his second goal of the young season with a seeing-eye point shot on the power play. Zawatsky and Matthew Culling earned assists on the play.
When Ryan Peckford made it 5-2 Moose Jaw, the Broncos kept on coming and were rewarded as Ethan Regnier scored an incredible goal for Swift Current. The 18-year-old forward batted down a puck out of mid air to his stick and beat goaltender Adam Evanoff five-hole to get his team within two goals.
Max Patterson recorded his first goal of the season 30 seconds later to get the Broncos right back in the game 5-4. Swift Current would pull goaltender Joel Hofer for the extra attacker but they couldn't get that tying goal to force overtime.
Shots on goal were 40-26 in favour of Moose Jaw. The Broncos power play unit went 1/4 while the Warriors finished 1/5.
Swift Current remains winless but will get another shot at collecting their first victory on home ice when they take on the Spokane Chiefs on Friday, October 12th at the Innovation Credit Union i-Plex.
