Wheat Kings Dump Pats Saturday

Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Regina, Sk. - The Brandon Wheat Kings used a big second period to beat the hometown Regina Pats 7-3 Saturday night.
The Wheat Kings exploded for five second period goals, including back to back shorthanded markers from Caiden Daley and Lynden McCallum 28 seconds apart and never looked back. For McCallum, it was his first ever WHL goal.
With the win, Brandon closed out its first overnight road trip of the 2018-19 Western Hockey League season by collecting three of a possible four points to improve to 4-0-1-0 on the season.
One night after dropping an overtime decision to the Warriors in Moose Jaw, the Wheat Kings jumped out to a 1-0 first period lead before dominating the second and taking a 6-1 lead to the dressing room through forty minutes.
Rounding out the scoring for the Wheat Kings, who received a 37-save performance from netminder Jiri Patera, were Cole Reinhardt, Jonny Hooker, Ben McCartney, Connor Gutenberg and captain Stelio Mattheos.
Austin Pratt, Nick Henry and Scott Mahovlich scored in a losing cause for the Pats, who dropped to 1-5-0-0 on the season.
Brandon coach David Anning says it was a good bounce back game for his club.
"We talked about being aggressive and making good choices when the opportunity was there and I thought our guys made quality reads and got their feet going and had good sticks and caused some problems," Anning told the Brandon Sun following the game. "Any time you can create turnovers and capitalize on mistakes, it plays a big factor in the hockey game. Three of four points on the road is good."
In addition to the two shorthanded goals, Brandon connected twice on the powerplay while keeping the Pats man advantage in check.
The Wheat Kings will now return home for the balance of the Thanksgiving long weekend, before preparing for a pivotal 5-game homestand that begins next weekend with games against Moose Jaw and Swift Current on Friday and Saturday nights.
Tickets to both weekend games go back on sale Tuesday morning at the Keystone Centre box office, however, fans can order online at keystonecentre.com or by calling (204) 726-3555.
