The Chicago Cubs have announced the following roster moves affecting the Myrtle Beach Pelicans:

-OF Chris Pieters has been placed on the 7-day disabled list.

-OF Luis Ayala has been assigned to Myrtle Beach from Extended Spring Training. He will wear No. 52.

Pieters has played in 27 games so far in 2018 for Myrtle Beach, hitting .226/.275/.290 with two doubles, two triples and four stolen bases. A native of Willemstad in Curacao, Pieters spent the 2017 campaign with Low-A South Bend, where he posted a .254/.340/.384 batting line in 86 games. He hit 14 doubles, seven triples, four home runs and 31 RBIs to go along with 13 stolen bases. Pieters was originally signed by Chicago as a pitcher in 2011, but converted to a position player after the 2014 season.

Ayala batted .281/.360/.373 in 114 games with Low-A South Bend a season ago, posting 17 doubles, five triples, three home runs and 42 RBIs. He also swiped 24 bases. A native of Maracay in Venezuela, Ayala played in 46 games with Rookie-level Mesa in 2016, slashing .283/.330/.369 with five doubles, four triples, one home run, 19 RBIs and 19 steals. He was originally signed by the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent in 2013.

The Pelicans' roster sits at 25 active players, with five players on the disabled list.
