Nyden Selected as 2018 Wall of Fame Inductee

CHARLESTON, WV - The West Virginia Power, Class A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, are excited to announce that Paul Nyden has been selected as the 2018 inductee for the Charleston Baseball Wall of Fame, which currently resides at Appalachian Power Park. Nyden will be honored at a special pregame ceremony on June 26 at the downtown Charleston facility and will have a plaque crafted and hung up alongside many other legendary Charleston figures. Nyden is the 27th member to be inducted into the Wall of Fame, which has recognized members of the Charleston community since 2007, when Trevor Hoffman headlined a six-man class.
Tickets for the Power's June 26 game against the Lakewood BlueClaws are available now by calling the Power at 304-344-BATS or visiting wvpower.com. You can also visit the Power Box Office located on the first base side of Morris Street from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to purchase tickets in advance of the day's game.
Nyden, a veteran investigative reporter for the Charleston Gazette-Mail, was a loyal fan of the Charleston Wheelers, Charleston Alley Cats and the West Virginia Power. The journalist kickstarted his career when he received a job offer for his featured article in GOLDENSEAL about coalfield baseball.
"We are very excited to honor Mr. Nyden's many years of journalistic service to the Charleston community," Power Executive Vice President Ken Fogel said. "Paul was a valued and respected member of the media in Charleston, and we cannot think of a better way to honor his legacy than by inducting him into the Wall of Fame."
Besides being an avid writer, Nyden was a devoted season ticket holder at both Watt Powell Park and Appalachian Power Park and was known for hosting celebrations for the players at his house. The lifelong Boston Red Sox fan lived and breathed the game of baseball, bringing his family to many a minor league game both in Charleston and across the nation. Nyden will always be remembered for the impact he had on the Charleston community and the state of West Virginia.
