Well, Isn't This Interesting...
After New York City FC lost to Portland last Sunday, FC Dallas is the last undefeated team in MLS for the second straight season. According to Elias Sports Bureau, this is the first time in MLS history the same team has been the last to lose a match in back-to-back seasons. FC Dallas was unbeaten through the first nine matches to start the 2017 season.
That Defense, Though
FC Dallas has only allowed three (yes, 3!) goals through six games, the fewest in MLS. Six teams have allowed only eight goals in league play, the second fewest total allowed on the season. Dallas has posted two straight shutouts and has gone 208 minutes without giving up a goal.
Still Good in Goal
FC Dallas goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer was credited with two saves in posting his second consecutive shutout. He has not allowed more than one goal in any of his six career MLS starts. He leads MLS with a .50 goals against average and is tied for the league lead with three shutouts.
Against New York City FC
FC Dallas has not lost to NYCFC in three previous meetings. Dallas won the first meeting between the two clubs with a 2-1 victory on September 12, 2015 at Toyota Stadium. Sunday's match will be FCD's second trip ever to Yankee Stadium. The clubs played to a 2-2 draw in the Bronx on September 17, 2016. They played to a 1-1 draw on May 14, 2017 in Frisco.
About New York City FC...This Game Is Big, Folks....
New York City FC saw its undefeated start to the 2018 season come to an end last Sunday in a 3-0 loss to the Portland Timbers last Sunday. The loss snapped an eight-match unbeaten streak in league play, dating back to the 2017 season. NYCFC has not lost consecutive games since April 16-23, 2016. New York is at the top of the table in the eastern conference with 17 points through eight games.
