Three Points: Dynamo Look for First Road Win in Twin Cities

April 27, 2018 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Houston Dynamo FC News Release

HOUSTON - A week after thrashing Toronto FC 5-1 at BBVA Compass Stadium, the Houston Dynamo are back on the road this weekend as they travel to Minneapolis to take on Minnesota United FC on Saturday evening at TCF Bank Stadium.

Houston will be making its second-ever trip to Minnesota and will be seeking their first win at TCF Bank Stadium as well as their first win away from home this season. A win or a draw would extend the club's road unbeaten streak to five consecutive games, dating back to Sept. 23, 2017, and a win would be head coach Wilmer Cabrera's 25th on an MLS sideline (and 16th with the Dynamo).

GAME INFORMATION:

MATCHUP: Houston Dynamo (2-2-2; 8 pts.) at Minnesota United FC (2-5-0; 6 pts.)

TIME: 7:00 p.m. CDT

TV: KUBE Ch. 57 (LOCAL CHANNEL GUIDE)

RADIO: CBS Sports Radio 650 AM (English); Univision Radio 1010 AM (Spanish)

HERE ARE THREE KEY POINTS YOU'LL NEED TO KNOW AS YOU PREPARE FOR SATURDAY'S MATCH:

1. MAINTAINING ROAD FORM - The Dynamo have been strong on the road so far this season, albeit in a limited sample size. Through two games away from home, the team has a pair of draws, both of which could have been wins were it not for late goals scored by D.C. United and San Jose to split each game. After averaging a paltry 0.8 goals per away game in 2017, the Dynamo have bagged two goals in each of their road contests so far this year. Continuing that high-scoring form, combined with improved play over the last 10 minutes of games, could see the Dynamo return home with a full three points for the first time this year.

2. DARWIN VS. DARWIN - On March 30, Minnesota announced the signing of a new Designated Player - Colombian playmaker Darwin Quintero, who joined the Loons from Mexican powerhouse Club América. Quintero has only appeared in two games for his new team so far, but already has a goal and an assist as he's helped Minnesota pick up points against two recent Western Conference powers, Seattle and Portland. Keeping Quintero in check will be a focal point for the Dynamo when the ball moves into their end of the field, and a large part of that responsibility will fall to midfielder Darwin Cerén. The 28-year-old Salvadoran made his name in MLS as a defensive midfielder, breaking up opposing attacks and winning the ball back for his team. Doing that on Saturday night against Quintero could go a long way toward helping the Dynamo pick up the win.

3. KEEP UP THE SCORING PUNCH - The Dynamo exploded for five goals last Saturday against a reserve-heavy Toronto FC side, but even factoring in the weakened Reds side that took the field, that goal outburst was far from unusual for Houston this year. Through six games, the Dynamo have scored two or more goals four times, including in both of their road contests so far. Led by forwards Alberth Elis (three goals, four assists) and Mauro Manotas (four goals), the Dynamo are tied for fifth in the league with 14 goals. On the other side, Minnesota have given up the third-most goals in the league this year (15 in seven games). If Houston can keep those two trends going, they give themselves a great chance to take three points from Minnesota on Saturday.
