Modesto Nuts News Release
MODESTO, CA. - On a rain-soaked Sunday afternoon, the Modesto Nuts won 2-1 in walk-off fashion over the Lake Elsinore Storm to avoid a three-game sweep at John Thurman Field.
Johnny Adams singled with one out in the ninth inning against Storm (24-23) reliever Jordan Guerrero (L, 0-1). With Joe Rizzo at the plate, Adams stole second. Rizzo then singled into center. Adams was held at third. Jeisson Rosario still threw to the plate but his toss bounced off the mound and past the catcher allowing Adams to score the walk-off run on an error.
There were no earned runs in the game.
Ray Kerr (W, 1-2) was terrific out of the Nuts' (22-28) bullpen. He threw five shutout innings allowing just two singles and walking only one while striking out three.
The Nuts' lone run came across in the fourth. Matt Sanders hit a groundball to the shortstop Gabriel Arias whose throw went into the dugout allowing Sanders to head to second. He scored on Jack Larsen's RBI double.
Penn Murfee started for the Nuts and he allowed only an unearned run in the second that scored on a RBI fielder's choice. Murfee worked four innings and allowed just three hits.
The Nuts start a three-game series in Stockton on Monday night. First pitch is at 6:10 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:00 p.m. Listen live online on your phone, tablet or PC.
