Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lancaster, CA - In what will easily go down as the wildest game of their 2019 season so far, the Quakes scored three in the 11th, but served up four in the bottom of the inning, as the Lancaster JetHawks downed Rancho by a final of 13-12 at The Hangar in Lancaster.
In a game that lasted a season-high four hours and 47 minutes, the JetHawks earned the win to take two of three in the series and pull to within two games of Rancho in the South Division Standings.
Trailing by three in the 11th, Lancaster started the inning with a man in scoring position against Quakes' reliever Connor Mitchell (1-1). After a walk brought the tying run to the plate, Luis Castro exploded for his third homer of the game, tying the contest at 12-12. After getting the next hitter, Mitchell coughed up another homer, as Todd Czinege smashed the game-winner to left-center.
Rancho scored three runs in four different innings, twice rallying from three-run deficits, including in the ninth, with their backs against the wall.
Trailing 9-6, Rancho got run-scoring hits from Deacon Liput, Donovan Casey and Jeter Downs, with the final two coming with two outs to even the game against JetHawks' closer Salvador Justo.
In the 11th, Devin Mann put the Quakes ahead with an RBI single, before Eric Peterson's two-run made it a three-run game at 12-9.
Lancaster reliever Kenny Koplove (2-1), who gave up the three in the 11th, earned the win, thanks to his team's four-run frame to walk it off.
The Quakes (28-20) go into the off-day on Monday with a two-game lead over Lancaster with 22 games remaining in the first half standings. On Tuesday, Rancho opens a series in Lake Elsinore, kicking off the three-game set with a scheduled doubleheader, with first pitch set for 1:00pm. Michael Grove is expected to start game one for Rancho Cucamonga, while they have yet to name a game-two starter. Lake Elsinore will go with Luis Pitino in game one and Ronald Bolanos in game two.
On Thursday, the Quakes return to LoanMart Field with a four-game set against Inland Empire. Thursday is another Thirsty Thursday, this one sponsored by Punchbowl Social, as fans can enjoy $2 Pepsi products, $3 16-ounce domestic drafts and $4 16-ounce premium drafts. Game time is 7:05pm.
