Nuts Stranded in the Sun in 6-3 Loss

Modesto, CA. - Missed opportunities early cost the Modesto Nuts in a 6-3 loss to the Inland Empire 66ers on Sunday afternoon to close the first half.

In the first four innings, the Nuts (26-44) had multiple chances but were only able to push a single tally against 66ers' (23-47) starter Jake Jewell (W, 1-7). Max White smacked a RBI single in the third inning. Other than that, the Nuts stranded eight baserunners in the first four frames. Overall, the Nuts left eleven on the basepaths.

Jewell worked five innings, allowed seven hits with five walks and five strikeouts.

The 66ers broke a tie game in the sixth with Helmis Rodriguez (L, 1-4) on the mound. A leadoff walk came around to score as part of a two-run double by Zach Houchins. Zach Welz added a RBI groundout. Rodriguez tossed 1.2 and allowed three runs on two hits.

Carlos Polanco tossed five innings in the start for the Nuts allowing just one run with five strikeouts and only one walk.

Troy Stein smashed a solo homer. White went 2-for-5 with two singles. Wes Rogers reached three times, smacked a double and scored two runs.
