Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
San Jose, CA-- The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes will enter game #70 on Sunday afternoon in Sunday with a chance to still win the first half, as the Quakes dominated in San Jose on Saturday evening, winning by a final of 8-2.
With the Quakes doing their part, they needed some help from the last-place Stockton Ports in Adelanto.
They got it.
Trailing 1-0 throughout much of the game, the Ports tallied two runs in the eighth and held off High Desert over the final six outs, winning 2-1 to give Rancho life on Sunday afternoon.
The Quakes got a pair of two-run homers early on Saturday, as Julian Leon (4th) and Edwin Rios (2nd) each clobbered a long-ball, helping the Quakes build a 5-0 lead over San Jose starter Jordan Johnson (5-5).
Quakes' All-Star Josh Sborz was brilliant over five scoreless innings, in his final start of the first half. Sborz (7-3) allowed just two hits and one walk, lowering his ERA to 2.58 entering the break.
The Giants got a pair of runs off the Rancho bullpen, but the Quakes put it away in the ninth, with Devan Ahart capping the three-run frame with his third hit of the day, a two-run single to make it 8-2.
The victory for Rancho (42-27) sets a franchise-best for wins in a first half and ties the franchise record for most wins in any half.
The Quakes will go with All-Star Andrew Sopko (7-0) on Sunday, while San Jose will send Phil Bickford (0-0) to the mound in his California League debut. Game time on Sunday will be 1:00pm. Happy Father's Day everybody!
The Quakes return to second-half action at LoanMart Field on Thursday, June 23rd, as they host the High Desert Mavericks in a four-game series. Thursday will be another Thirsty Thursday, presented by Bernard's, as fans can enjoy $2 Pepsi products, $3 16-oz domestic drafts and $4 16-oz premium drafts, wine, champagne and margaritas. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
