Modesto Nuts News Release
Modesto, CA. - A late rally fell short in the Modesto Nuts' 5-3 loss to the Visalia Rawhide on Monday night at John Thurman Field.
In the ninth, the Nuts (16-22; 42-65) put the tying runs on base but Cameron Gann (S, 4/4) worked out of trouble to give the Rawhide (17-21;63-45) the series-opening victory.
Josh Fuentes started the ninth with an infield single. Drew Weeks reached on an error before both were sacrificed into scoring position by Dom Nunez. Troy Stein then popped out and Collin Ferguson grounded out to end the game.
Nunez homered for the third time in his last six games. Omar Carrizales whacked a RBI double. Wes Rogers went 2-for-4 with a RBI and run scored.
After the Nuts took the lead in the first, the Rawhide scored four unanswered runs against Nuts' starter Parker French (L, 6-8). French went 5.2 innings allowing five total runs, four earned with five strikeouts and two walks.
Joel Payamps (W, 4-3) worked 7.1 innings against the Nuts and surrendered just three runs on five hits.
