
Nuts Battle Back to Earn 6-5 Win

San Jose, CA. - By erasing two deficits, the Modesto Nuts earned their second straight comeback win against the San Jose giants at Municipal Stadium with a 6-5 triumph on Sunday afternoon.
In the rubber game of a three-game set, the Nuts (25-32) fell behind when Gio Brusa smacked a solo home run in the third.
Luis Liberato tied the game with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Garrett Kennedy gave the Nuts the lead with a two-out RBI single in the fifth. That started a stretch of three lead changes in three consecutive half innings.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Giants (30-27) retook the lead when Matt Winn lifted a two run shot. Kelby Tomlinson added a RBI single in the inning.
In the top of the sixth, the Nuts came back to take the lead for good. After a leadoff error, Kyle Lewis and Joe Rizzo ripped back-to-back RBI doubles. Bryson Brigman followed with a RBI single to give the Nuts the lead.
Ljay Newsome (W, 4-3) earned the win working six innings allowing four runs on six hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
Carlos Sano (L, 0-1) took the loss out of the bullpen working three innings allowing five runs on six hits.
Jack Anderson entered the game in the seventh with the Nuts up by a run and baserunners on the corners. He struck out the only man he needed to face in the inning before working a scoreless eighth. Seth Elledge (S, 7/7) worked around an error in the ninth with two strikeouts to give the Nuts a series victory.
