Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Quakes homered their way to a season-best fifth consecutive win on Saturday night, totaling 13 hits in an 8-2 victory over the Lancaster JetHawks.

The win not only gives the Quakes their longest winning streak of the year, but Rancho now has a share of first place with Inland Empire and Lake Elsinore, with just 14 games to go in the first half.

Rancho gathered an early lead while scoring the first five runs on the game on three home runs.

For the third time this season, Gavin Lux hit a solo home run on the very first pitch of his at-bat to give the Quakes an early 1-0 lead out of the gate.

Rylan Bannon added a solo-shot in the third, tying him for the league lead with his 13th homer of the year.

Later in the fifth, Steve Berman followed up a pair of singles from Logan Landon and Zach McKinstry with a three-run blast into right field for the 5-0 lead.

In his first start since early-May, Isaac Anderson held the Lancaster offense at bay, tossing four scoreless innings before departing in way of Stetson Allie. Allie (1-1) tossed a scoreless fifth inning, becoming the pitcher of record in his first win of the season.

With Ryan Moseley on the mound in the sixth, Lancaster scored their first run of the series when Vince Fernandez scored following an infield error, an unearned run against Moseley.

The second surge for Rancho came in the eighth when Jeren Kendall, Landon, McKinstry and Berman began the frame with four consecutive hits. Berman's single was the last of the four knocks, scoring Kendall and making it a 6-1 advantage. With an out in the eighth, Saige Jenco and Connor Wong then followed with consecutive RBI singles, padding the lead to 8-1.

Lancaster scored their final run of the game with a Manny Melendez groundout against Logan Salow, who closed the game in the ninth.

On the mound for Lancaster, starting pitcher Ty Culbreth (1-3) allowed all three Rancho home runs and five total runs over six innings in the loss.

Following the win, Rancho has positioned themselves for a possible series sweep of Lancaster on Sunday with first pitch in the conclusion of the series scheduled for 2:05 PM.

Right-hander Andrew Sopko (3-3, 3.14 ERA) is scheduled to make his 12th start of the season for the Quakes and be opposed by David Hill of Lancaster.

Sunday is our fourth U.S. Bank Youth Clinic! With a purchase of a ticket to the game kids can receive on field instruction form Quakes players and coaches and participate in a pre-game parade! The clinic begins at 10 AM and kids are welcome to run around the bases after the game thanks to Smile Generation! Tickets are available at 909-481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
