
Nowak Homers Twice in Otters' 6-4 Win over Joliet

(EVANSVILLE, INDIANA) - The Evansville Otters (43-27) added another three home runs to the Frontier League leading total (74) in a 6-4 win over the Joliet Slammers on Friday night.
With an Otters win and a Washington Wild Things loss, Evansville is now within 1.0 games of first place in the Frontier League East Division standings.
Right-hander William Oliver (1-0) was on the mound for the Otters, making his team debut. After stranding two men on base in the first, Oliver allowed back to back hits to begin the second and an RBI groundout later in the inning to fall behind by a run.
Evansville didn't wait long to re-gain the lead. The Otters tagged Joliet pitcher Kody McFarland (3-4) for four runs in the bottom of the inning. Nowak hit the first of his two home runs to begin the inning as Evansville also plated another two runs on wild pitches and one more on a throwing error.
Down 4-1, Joliet answered with a run in the third and another in the fifth to pull within a run. Nowak's second home run, a solo blast in the fifth, inched Evansville's lead back to three.
Trailing 5-3, Joliet received two walks in the sixth from Oliver before the Otters removed the right-hander. Lefty Anthony Collazo came into the game but allowed an RBI single to Christopher Epps. The base hit pulled Joliet within one run.
Leading 5-4, Houck hit a lead-off home run to left field to begin the 7th, tying him with Jeff Goldbach (2005) for the most home runs hit in Otters single season franchise history.
Relievers Evan Mott and Blake Monar bridged the game to the ninth where closer Eric Massingham struck out struck out two of the final three hitters to preserve the Otters win. Chris Elder, Houck, Nowak, and Chris Sweeney all had two hits each in the Otters victory.
Evansville will now begin a three-game series against the River City Rascals on Saturday night at Bosse Field. It is Rockport Lincoln Pioneer Village and Swat Pest night. Abraham Lincoln will be in attendance to throw out the first pitch and there will also be postgame fireworks as well. First pitch is set for 6:35 pm CDT and fans can call 812-435-8686 to purchase tickets. The game can also be heard live on WUEV 91.5 FM. Play by play announcer Mike Radomski will have the call beginning at 6:15 pm.
