Washington Wild Things News Release

Schaumburg, IL - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, were unable to finish off the sweep Friday, August 8, falling to the Schaumburg Boomers by a final score of 5-4. Eddie Cody took the win for the Boomers while Washington starter Troy Marks took the loss.

After three and a half scoreless innings, the Boomers were able to break the tie and put some runs on the scoreboard in the fourth. Tony Delmonico got the inning started for Schaumburg with a leadoff double. He would advance to third base and later score off an RBI single from Ty Nelson to give the Boomers a 1-0 lead.

The Boomers continued the big inning as Michael Valadez picked up a two run single bringing around Ty Nelson and Gerard Hall to extend the lead. Before Washington could get out of the inning, Alexi Colon would clear the bases with a two-run triple to make the score 5-0.

Washington's offense ignited in the sixth as Scott Kalamar and William Beckwith picked up back to back hits for the first time in the game. Carter Bell picked up his 18th RBI in the inning with a single to left field allowing Kalamar to hustle around third and cross the plate to put the Wild Things on the board, 5-1.

The Wild Things made things interesting in the ninth as William Beckwith led off the inning with a single. The next batter, Carter Bell, crushed a ball over the outfield wall to cut the lead down to two making the score 5-3. Washington kept the bats going as Garrett Rau would get aboard on a walk and Dan Johnston on an infield single.

The rally continued as Daniel Poma picked up an RBI single to bring in Garrett Rau making it a one run ball game, 5-4. However, the Wild Things rally would fall short off a groundout leaving two runners aboard and the visiting team dropping a close one after a late game rally.

Even with the lose tonight Washington became the first team to win a series against Schaumburg at home this season as they won two out of the three games in the series.

The Wild Things will return home for a three game series against the Traverse City Beach Bums beginning on Saturday, August 9th. Follow the live in-game updates on Twitter @washwildthings. For tickets, call 724-250-9555 or order online at www.washingtonwildthings.com.
