Northern Arizona Wranglers News Release

The Northern Arizona Wranglers will return home to Pinnacle Bank Field at the Findlay Toyota Center, on Saturday evening, for an important showdown with the Tucson Sugar Skulls.

The Wranglers currently hold a 6-6 record on the 2023 season, and they're home for the second of three consecutive games. Entering enemy territory this weekend will be one of the Wranglers in-state foes, in the Sugar Skulls. The Sugar Skulls enter the matchup with a 6-5 record, and they currently hold the third playoff spot in the Indoor Football League's Western Conference. The Wranglers are currently just a half-game behind the Sugar Skulls, holding the fourth and final playoff spot. A victory is needed for either team to ensure a better shot at qualifying for the 2023 postseason. The Wranglers would make a jump from the fourth seed to third with a win.

The Sugar Skulls lost to the San Diego Strike Force last week, in a 59-54 battle in the Boneyard. The Wranglers are also coming off a tough loss at home, falling to the Frisco Fighters, who currently hold the IFL's best overall record. The Wranglers struggled offensively last weekend for most of the game. On the positive side of the coin, Northern Arizona's number-one-ranked scoring defense held Frisco's top-scoring offense to just 37 total points. The Wranglers will be aiming for smooth performances on both sides of the ball to win this important conference faceoff with the Sugar Skulls. This game has major playoff implications for the IFL's Western Conference.

The Wranglers earned a hard-fought victory against the Sugar Skulls in Tucson, Ariz., earlier this season. Both Tucson and Northern Arizona traded numerous turnovers in their first meeting this season. The Wranglers reigned victorious despite the turnovers committed, winning by a score of 31-21. The Wranglers hold a 5-3 record when playing against the Sugar Skulls, since the organization's inception in 2021. The Sugar Skulls will be led by a talented quarterback in Ramone Atkins, along with a strong two-headed rushing attack. The Wranglers rushing defense will need to play more physical to stop both Jones's. Wranglers quarterback Garrett Kettle will be shooting to get the offense back on track with a strong performance.

Will the Wranglers complete the regular season sweep of the Sugar Skulls with a victory at home on Saturday?
