IFL Announces Week Fourteen Players of the Week

The Indoor Football League is proud to announce the Players of the Week for week fourteen of the 2023 XV season. Iowa Quarterback, Daniel Smith, is the Offensive Player of the Week. Sioux Falls Defensive Back, Byron Edwards, earns Defensive Player of the Week. Special Teams Player of the Week goes to Gabriel Rui, Kicker for the Iowa Barnstormers.
Daniel Smith - OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Welcome back to the IFL, Daniel Smith. The Iowa Barnstormers have had a season to forget. 2023 has been riddled with injuries. The most impactful of these was the loss of their starting quarterback, Darius-James Peterson, in the second week of the year. They've tried multiple arms to fill the void without much return. Until now. Iowa brought in former Sioux Falls Storm backup Daniel Smith, and he made quite the entrance. Smith led an 80-point explosion over heavily favored Quad City. Smith completed 26 of 39 attempts for 292 yards and five touchdowns. He added 54 yards and one touchdown on the ground.
Byron Edwards - DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The Storm is in a position in which every game carries massive playoff implications. They couldn't afford a loss in Tulsa. While the Storm offense only mustered 29 offensive points, including zero in the fourth quarter, the Storm Defense made big plays and key stops to earn the 35-34 win. Leading the way was defensive back, Byron Edwards. Byron was a playmaker all night. He accumulated 7.5 tackles and two interceptions. Early in the third quarter with the score tied at 20, Edwards returned a pick 42 yards for a touchdown.
Gabriel Rui - SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Even in the high-scoring IFL, 80 points makes you take notice. Daniel Smith and company were firing on all cylinders and the offensive performance was impressive across the board. But one player was responsible for 25% of their points alone. It wasn't one of the offensive playmakers. It was veteran kicker, Gabriel Rui. With his one field goal, 9/10 PATs and four deuces, Rui was responsible for 20 of the Barnstormers 80 points.
As the 2023 IFL Playoffs approach, the consequences grow. Week 15 features seven games. Ten of the twelve teams are vying for playoff positions. There is one game on Friday and six on Saturday. Get all the details at www.GoIFL.com.
