Normal CornBelters News Release
WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, supported a solid first start by Jacob Liedka and won their second road game, 4-0 over the Washington Wild Things on Saturday night at CONSOL Energy Park.
The CornBelters opened the scoring when Steven Felix and Jordan Stouffer hit back-to-back doubles with one out in the second inning, followed by a two-out single by Derek Luciano to score Stouffer and give Normal a 2-0 lead. Felix added a run when he hit a towering home run to right center to lead off the fourth.
CornBelters pitcher Jacob Liedka began his first start by retiring the first 13 batters he faced before surrendering back-to-back singles with one out in the fifth inning, although the Wild Things were kept off the scoreboard in the frame.
Liedka (1-1) picked up the win with six innings of two-hit ball with six strikeouts without a walk, and only three balls hit to the outfield in the 20 batters he faced. Rich Mascheri pitched the final three innings, giving up only one additional hit, for his first save. Casey Barnes (1-1) took the loss.
The CornBelters conclude their two-week road trip on Sunday evening in suburban Pittsburgh in the finale against the Wild Things with left-hander Tyler Stovall (1-2, 7.62 ERA) projected to the start on the mound for Normal. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. Central with WJBC.com pre-game at 5:50. The CornBelters begin a six-game homestand on Monday night at 6:30 with the first of a three-game set against the Evansville Otters.
