Norfolk Tides News Release
Tides starter Brandon Erbe tossed six strong innings Sunday afternoon, but late timely hitting led the Yankees to a 4-0 victory.
Brandon Erbe turned in his best outing of the season thus far Sunday afternoon, allowing just three hits and one run over six innings, while walking three and striking out a season high six. Erbe gave up the lone run he surrendered in the top sixth inning as Scranton's Kevin Russo tripled to start the frame and later scored on an RBI ground out by Yankees first baseman Juan Miranda.
The Yankees added three more runs in the top of the eighth inning, as local First Colonial High product David Winfree collected his 13th RBI of the season on a ground out to third. Scranton's designated hitter Jon Weber singled in two more runs one batter later, giving Scranton what would be their final runs.
Koji Uehara tossed an inning of scoreless relief for Norfolk in the contest. Uehara faced four batters in the seventh inning, allowing just one single to Scranton's Jon Weber. The right-hander threw a total of eight pitches, seven of them for strikes, tossing just two pitches to each batter he faced. Uehara joined the Tides on a Major League rehab assignment Saturday and previously made two appearances with Double-A Bowie on April 27th and 29th. In his two outings with Bowie he allowed just one hit, walked one, and struck out one, as he makes his return from a left hamstring injury, which occurred in a Grapefruit League game this past spring.
The Tides collected just three hits in the contest as Scranton starter Jason Hirsh (2-3, 3.06) held Norfolk's bats to just one hit over seven innings of work. The Tides offense was lead by Corey Patterson, Josh Bell and Robert Andino as all three posted a one for three day at the plate.
The Tides will take on the same Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees tomorrow night with the first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Taking the hill for Norfolk will be Chris Tillman (2-3, 4.05), who will be making his first start since his historic no-hitter last Wednesday in Gwinnett. Scranton will send right-hander Ivan Nova (1-0, 2.70) to the mound to oppose Tillman.
