Five different Tides collected multiple hits as Norfolk knocked off the Durham Bulls 8-5 Tuesday night at Harbor Park.

Joe Mahoney had three singles and three runs batted in to lead the 13-hit attack, while Luis Exposito, Jamie Hoffmann, Scott Beerer and Matt Antonelli each added two hits apiece.

The Tides jumped out to an early lead in the second frame off of Bulls' starter Alex Cobb (0-2), as Exposito singled and scored on a double by Hoffmann. Beerer followed with a run-scoring triple to center field, and Jai Miller plated Beerer with a sacrifice fly to give Norfolk a 3-0 lead.

After Durham scored a run in the third, Norfolk extended its lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the frame on a two-run single by Mahoney.

Durham pulled within 5-4 on a two-run homer by Will Rhymes in the fourth, but Xavier Avery extended his hitting streak and the Tides' lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the frame. Avery has now hit safely in eight straight games, batting .414 (12-for-29) with a home run, three RBI and eight walks over that span. He also scored three runs and stole three bases in the contest, making him 7-for-7 on steals this season.

Tides starter Chris Tillman (2-2) earned the victory, allowing four runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings of work. Tillman struck out seven while walking two, throwing 67 of his 96 pitches for strikes.

The victory snapped a six-game losing streak for Norfolk, while the loss was Durham's ninth in a row. The Bulls' nine-game skid is their longest since joining the International League in 1998.

The two clubs will wrap up their two-game set on Wednesday night, with first pitch from Harbor Park set for 7:15. Dana Eveland (1-1, 2.41) will take the mound for Norfolk against right-hander Matt Torra (1-1, 8.22).
