Gearrin Gets the Call to Atlanta

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. - The Gwinnett Braves, in conjunction with the Atlanta Braves have announced that right-hander Cory Gearrin has been recalled by the Braves as right-hander Jair Jurrjens has been optioned to Gwinnett. In joining the Braves' 25-man roster, Gearrin becomes the first Gwinnett player to be promoted to the Major Leagues this season.

Gearrin, 26, went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and two saves in two chances over seven relief appearances with the G-Braves this season. He did not allow a run of any kind over 12.1 innings, limiting International League opponents to a .217 average (10-for-46). He returns to Atlanta, where he went 1-1 with a 7.85 ERA in 18 relief appearances in 2011.

Jurrjens, 26, went 0-2 with a 9.37 ERA in four starts for the Braves this season. He returns to Gwinnett for the third time in three seasons. The right-hander went 1-1 with a 5.54 ERA in three rehab outings for the G-Braves in 2010, and was 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in one Triple-A rehab start last season.

The Gwinnett Braves open a three-game series against the Charlotte Knights at Coolray Field on Tuesday, April 24, first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. Right-hander Tim Hudson (1-0, 0.00) will make his second Major League Rehab start for the G-Braves, while the Knights counter with left-hander Charlie Leesman (1-1, 5.02).
