Peoria Rivermen News Release

The Norfolk Admirals, of the American Hockey League, won their 19th consecutive game on Friday night to break the Peoria Rivermen record for the longest winning streak in professional hockey. The 1990-91 Rivermen - then members of the International Hockey League - won 18 consecutive games from Oct. 6 to Nov. 22, 1990.

The Admirals defeated the Albany Devils 2-1 on Friday and will attempt to extend the record to 20 on Saturday at 6:15 p.m. CDT.

After setting the record in 1990, the Rivermen went on to finish the regular season with a record 58-19-0-5. Coached by St. Louis Blues legend Bob Plager, the team completed their magical season with the team's second Turner Cup championship. The team featured players such as Nelson Emerson, Kelly Chase, Tony Twist, Pat Jablonski and Guy Hebert.

Those players, along with six other members of the championship team, will participate in the Rivermen Alumni game on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Tickets to the game are available for $10 at the door. For more information visit www.rivermenalimni.com.
