Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Michael Leighton's 24-save performance sparked the Adirondack Phantoms to a 1-0 shutout over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
The Phantoms recorded the only goal they would need at the 8:59 mark of the first period. Stationed on the far point, Eric Gustafsson floated a pass to the slot that was settled down by Tye McGinn. He quickly sent a backpass from below the near circle that Jason Akeson batted past goalie Scott Munroe.
The Penguins had several chances to even the score, but Leighton repeatedly turned them aside, including a glove save on a point-blank shot by Alex Grant with six minutes left in regulation.
Munroe dropped to 17-7-3 on the season, making 20 saves on 21 shots. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was 0-for-5 on the power play and killed off all four Adirondack man-advantages.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins host the St. John's IceCaps on Saturday, March 24 at 7:05 PM. The first 5,000 fans will receive a Zach Sill Bobblehead Magnet. For tickets or more information, call the Penguins at (570) 208-PENS or visit www.wbspenguins.com.
