Norfolk Admirals News Release
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. â Today, the Norfolk Admirals announced that the club has signed an affiliation with the Florence Pride of the ECHL for the 2003-2004 season.
Formerly known as the Pee Dee Pride, the ECHL franchise has been in Florence, S.C., since 1997. Last season, the club finished third in the ECHL's Southern Division with a record of 40-26-6 (86 points). After eliminating South Carolina in four games in the post-season, the Pride were knocked out of the playoffs when they were swept in three games by Columbia.
"The Florence organization has a great reputation in the ECHL and we are pleased to be affiliated with such a franchise," stated Admirals General Manager Al MacIsaac. "We are certainly looking forward to working with Perry Florio again. He has done a great job with the players we have sent to him in the past and we are confident he will continue to do so.
"The Chicago Blackhawks are pleased to be working with both the Norfolk Admirals and the Florence Pride," said Blackhawks General Manager Mike Smith. "The Admirals and the Pride will provide the Blackhawks with a solid home for developing our many young prospects.
"The Pride are excited to be working with Chicago and Norfolk," said Florence's Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Perry Florio. "Mike Smith and Al MacIsaac are two General Managers who are very well respected for what they have accomplished. The Blackhawks and the Admirals are great organizations with long traditions of success. I am looking forward to the challenge of developing some top NHL prospects.
