NORFOLK, VA - The Admirals closed out their four-game homestand with a pair of victories this past weekend against the Syracuse Crunch. John Gibson was stellar in both games against the Crunch, allowing just one goal in six periods of play this weekend. Gibson posted a 17-save shutout in a 2-0 Norfolk win on Friday, while turning aside 28 of 29 shots faced to lead the Admirals to a 2-1 win on Saturday. Gibson pieced together a shutout sequence of nearly 111 minutes between both games.

The Admirals took three of four games during the recent homestand, and improve their home record to 13-8-0-4, and are 6-2-0-2 overall in the last ten games.

STANDINGS UPDATE as of 02/18/14

The Admirals (27-15-1-7, 62pts.) are currently third in the East Division, four points back of first place Binghamton. Norfolk is sixth overall in the conference.

ABOUT THIS WEEK'S MATCHUPS

The GEICO Challenge Cup Series resumes on Tuesday when the Admirals invade Time Warner Cable Arena in hopes of tying up the Challenge Cup series at six points apiece (CHA- 6, NOR- 4). The Admirals have posted a 1-1-1-1 record this season against Charlotte. Norfolk's second ranked penalty kill unit will have to contend with Charlotte's fourth ranked power play unit that scored three times on the man advantage against the Admirals back on January 19. The three power play goals was the most the Admirals have allowed all season. Aaron Palushaj leads the Checkers with two goals and two assists against the Admirals this season. Norfolk's Antoine Lagainere and Emerson Etem each have posted five points against Charlotte this season.

After a rare Friday off for the Admirals, a big two points will be on the line when Norfolk travels to Albany to take on the Devils Saturday. Albany currently sitting in the ninth spot in the conference, is just two points behind sixth place Norfolk. The will also renew a sibling rivalry between Norfolk's Steven Whitney and Albany's Joe Whitney.

The two brothers played together at Boston College. Joe Whitney leads the Devils in points (41), goals (19), and assists (22). The Admirals are 2-1 this season against Albany.

Norfolk will close out the road stretch on Sunday afternoon in Springfield. The game will feature the AHL's top two penalty kill units as Springfield is ranked first and Norfolk second. The Admirals are 2-1 this season against the Falcons. Norfolk picked up a gutsy and hard-fought performance at Springfield back on January 12. The Falcons are ranked second in the conference and have been atop to the Northeast Division for a majority of the season.
