Pirates Look for 3rd Straight Win, Face IceCaps at Colisee
February 18, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Portland Pirates News Release
Lewiston, ME-The Portland Pirates will look for their third straight win tonight as they host the St. John's IceCaps at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston. Puck drop is at 7 PM for the first of two meetings between the Pirates and IceCaps this week and the 7th of 12 meetings this season. St. John's leads the season series 5-1.
The Pirates defeated the Adirondack Phantoms 2-0 at the Colisee on Sunday in a very feisty game. Chris Brown and Brendan Shinnimin scored for the Pirates while Louis Domingue made 28 saves to keep the Phantoms off the board. Domingue and Visentin shared the shutout after a fracas that saw the Pirates break every single game team penalty minute record with 22 seconds left in the final period.
St. John's is on a two game skid as they dropped their last game on Sunday, a 4-3 shootout loss to the Manchester Monarchs. Carl Klingberg, Adam Lowry, and John Albert had the IceCaps' goals, while Michael Hutchinson made 21 saves in net. The IceCaps are in the midst of a 6 game road trip that will end in Lewiston on Sunday at 4 PM.
The Pirates and IceCaps last played on January 31st, a 7-4 win for St. John's. Phil Lane scored just 22 seconds into the game to give the Pirates the lead, but the IceCaps chipped away and eventually took the lead for good in the third period with three straight goals. Jordan Szwarz, Brandon McMillan and Lucas Lessio had the other Pirates goals. McMillan leads the Pirates in points against the IceCaps with 8 (1 goal, 5 assists) while Lucas Lessio as three goals against St. John's in 6 games.
KeyBank Key to the Game
Come Together: The Pirates had a very successful weekend with a sweep of Adirondack, and only allowing 2 goals on a total of 81 shots. More importantly, the team came together to support each other when things got rough on Sunday. This newfound momentum will be vital for the Pirates as they look to push towards a playoff spot.
