Amerks to Support USA Hockey's "Hockey Weekend Acros
February 18, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans are proud to support USA Hockey's Hockey Weekend Across America, scheduled for Feb. 28 to Mar. 2, 2014. While the Amerks will be on a road trip that weekend, the organization will be on hand at various Try Hockey For Free sessions around Rochester on Saturday, Mar. 1.
"Hockey Weekend Across America is an annual celebration of hockey that the Amerks are proud to get involved with," said Amerks Vice President of Business Operations Rob Kopacz. "The Try Hockey For Free initiative is a great opportunity for kids and families to get exposed to the game and hopefully it creates new players and fans of the sport."
Hockey Weekend Across America was created by USA Hockey in 2008 to engage the hockey community in celebrating the sport of hockey at all levels and exposing the sport to new audiences. Because the Amerks will be out of town during this year's HWAA, the team is offering all kids who are registered members of USA Hockey a complimentary ticket to the home game on Saturday, Feb. 22 versus the Hamilton Bulldogs at The Blue Cross Arena. Tickets are available at www.amerks.com/usahockey.
On Saturday, Mar. 1, USA Hockey and over 400 local programs across the country will encourage kids, ages 4 to 9, to come to a local participating rink and try youth hockey as part of Hockey Weekend Across America. All locations have a limited amount of equipment available for use.
The Amerks will support the efforts of local youth hockey programs by having the team's mascot, the Moose, as well as staff members at the following rinks:
- 10:00 a.m.: Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex - 2700 Brighton Henrietta Town Line Rd, Brighton, NY 14623 (Moose and Staff)
- 1:00 p.m.: Thomas Creek Ice Arena - 80 Lyndon Rd, Fairport, NY 14450 (Moose and Staff)
- 4:00 p.m.: Webster Ice Arena - 865 Publishers Parkway, Webster, NY 14580 (Staff only)
All kids who participate at the aforementioned Try Hockey For Free sessions can receive a voucher for a complimentary ticket to an Amerks home game with additional tickets available to them for just $12. For more information on Try Hockey For Free Day, visit www.tryhockeyforfree.com or contact one of the local rinks listed above.
