
Norfolk Admirals Weekly: Admirals Back on the Road this Weekend

NORFOLK, VA - The Norfolk Admirals picked up a pair of home wins this past weekend against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Norfolk won Friday's game by a 3-1 count. On Saturday, Devante Smith-Pelly scored with 46 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime and the eventual shootout. The Admirals received shootout goals from Jesse Blacker and Max Friberg to secure the 3-2 shootout win en route to their third straight home game in front of the largest crowd of the season of 6,050.
Norfolk is back on the road this weekend for a three games in three days slate against Portland, Worcester, and Springfield.

STANDINGS UPDATE as of 1/8/14 The Admirals (18-12-1-4, 41pts.) are currently third in the East Division, just four points back of first place Binghamton. Norfolk sits seventh overall in the conference.
Eight teams in each conference shall qualify for the 2014 Calder Cup Playoffs. Following the conclusion of each team's 76-game regular season, the three division winners in each conference will be seeded first through third (in order of regular-season points) and the next five best teams (in order of regular-season points) will be seeded fourth through eighth.

- Rickard Rakell is currently riding an 8-game point scoring streak. Rakell has posted 11 points (3g, 8a) during this current streak which began back on December 19.
- Emerson Etem is currently riding a team high four-game goal scoring streak. In addition, Etem is riding a seven-game point scoring streak. Etem has recorded 14 points (7g, 7a) during this current streak which began on December 20. He has also registered a point in 13 or his 14 games played with Norfolk this season.
- The Admirals' current three-game home winning streak is the longest this season.
- Zack Stortini continues to the lead American Hockey League in penalty minutes (171) and major penalties (21).
- John Gibson is tied for the league lead in saves made with 700.

On Saturday, the Admirals and the Worcester Sharks will square off for the first time this season. The Sharks may be without two of their top players in Freddie Hamilton, and former Admiral Bracken Kearns who are currently recalled to San Jose Sharks of the NHL. However, the Sharks will have the services of Danill Tarasov, who has recorded 18 points (9g, 9a) in 21 games played this season. The Sharks hold a 5-1 record this season in overtime shootouts.
