
Iowa Wild Sign Pair of Forwards

Des Moines, IA- Iowa Wild General Manager Jim Mill announced on Wednesday the American Hockey League (AHL) club has signed forwards Jim McKenzie and Justin Mercier (murr-sear) to Professional Tryout Agreements (PTO).
Mercier is a fifth-year pro who has played the entire 2013-14 season with the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads. The 26-year old had ten goals and 18 points in 32 games as the captain of the Steelheads. The Erie, PA native has played in 220 career AHL games, scoring 39 goals and totaling 76 points for the Lake Erie Monsters. The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder also played in nine NHL games during the 2009-10 season, scoring his first NHL goal and totaling two points for the Colorado Avalanche. Mercier was drafted by Colorado in the sixth round (#168 overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
McKenzie is a seventh-year pro who spent the 2013-14 season with Iowa's Central Hockey League affiliate, the Quad City Mallards. In 28 games with Quad City, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound winger scored 11 goals and totaled 24 points, to go along with 67 penalty minutes. Over the course of his career, the St. Paul, MN native has played in a combined 67 AHL games for Binghamton, Lake Erie, Worcester and Peoria. The 29-year old has scored four goals and totaled nine points over his AHL career. McKenzie was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the fifth round (#141 overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
Iowa will continue its six-game road swing in Grand Rapids with the Griffins on Friday at 6 p.m. (CT). The team will return home on Jan. 15 to host Toronto at 7:05 p.m.
