Nominate Your Community Hero Today
June 30, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sacramento Republic FC News Release
Know someone who is working to make our community a better place and deserves to be celebrated? Nominate them today to be named Republic FC's Community Hero, presented by AARP!
Now through July 31, fans and community members can nominate their Community Hero at SacRepublicFC.com/AARP. Nominators are encouraged to share the story and impact of someone who is making a difference in the Sacramento region and whose work embodies the Indomitable spirit of our community. Nominees must be at least 18 years old and reside in the Greater Sacramento Region.
Whether someone has volunteered to help a group in need, created a non-profit organization, or used their business to raise money for charity, Republic FC and AARP want to hear about them. Every day heroes are an important part of the community and this is the chance to thank them for their selfless service.
The winner will be selected by a joint panel from Republic FC and AARP and receive a special VIP matchday experience on the club's Fan Appreciation Night (Oct. 14) - including an on-field presentation. The Community Hero's work will also be highlighted with content on Republic FC's website and social channels.
"AARP is thrilled to be partnering with Sacramento Republic FC for the second straight year to honor a Community Hero. AARP was built on volunteers and the spirit of volunteerism, so we welcome the opportunity to recognize someone who goes above-and-beyond to better their community." - Dawn Angelo, AARP Sacramento Regional Director
Last year, Dwight Roberts was named the inaugural Community Hero. For years, Roberts has voluntarily served as a mentor to young men through golf - putting on a free camp each summer for at-risk African American youth in the region at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex. He not only teaches those looking to learn the game, but serves as a crucial sounding board for young people experiencing a lot of challenges, and may not have a father-figure. In addition to his teaching and mentorship, Roberts also covers all the equipment expenses for those who participate - breaking down a big barrier to entry into a hobby, and a sport that has been such a bright light in his life.
