Lansing Lugnuts News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - Sean Nolin tossed six scoreless innings and Jake Marisnick homered as the Lansing Lugnuts (12-8; 50-37) tamed the Kane County Cougars (13-7; 41-48) for a second straight game, triumphing 3-1 on Thursday night at Elfstrom Stadium.
Marisnick lifted the Lugs into the lead three batters into the game, lining his eighth home run of the season to left against Cougars All-Star Greg Billo (Loss, 7-2).
The Cougars' All-Star dominated from there, tossing six innings and allowing five further hits while striking out four... only to be outpitched by the Lugnuts' 21-year-old left-hander.
On the heels of Marcus Walden's seven shutout innings on Wednesday night, Nolin (Win, 2-2) was nearly equally brilliant, scattering three hits and a walk while tying a career-high with seven strikeouts.
The Nuts gained important insurance to their lead in the eighth on a Marcus Knecht groundout and K.C. Hobson RBI single.
The Cougars mounted their most dangerous threat in the home half, loading the bases with none out against reliever Dustin Antolin. Danny Barnes entered and minimized the damage, inducing a run-scoring double play from Kevin David followed by a strikeout of top prospect Brett Eibner.
Looking for the sweep, the Lugnuts will throw right-hander Andrew Liebel (first start) at 8:00 p.m. ET on Friday night opposite Kane County Cougars righty Yordano Ventura (0-2, 5.48).
Lansing will be back in action at Cooley Law School Stadium on Wednesday, July 20, at 12:05 p.m., taking on the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on a Summer Fun Day. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
