Dragons Win See-Saw Battle 12-8

The Quad Cities River Bandits and Dayton Dragons battled back and forth for nine innings before the Dragons scored four runs in the final frame for the 12-8 win Thursday, in front of 5,068 fans at Modern Woodmen Park. The loss ends the Bandits season-high six game winning streak.

Bandit starter Seth Blair allowed three first inning runs, including a two-run homer to Yorman Rodriguez (2-for-3, 4 RBI). Quad Cities reclaimed the lead in the third when Cody Stanley (2-for-4) hit a three-run home run to give the Bandits a 4-3 lead. Blair left the game after four innings of work, giving up four runs on five hits while striking out three and walking four.

After a back and forth game that featured a total of 16 walks, the Dragons broke an 8-8 tie in the ninth when they scored four runs off Bandit reliever Angel DeJesus (L, 1-2). He allowed six runs in 1 2/3 innings of work and was tagged with the loss.

Drew Hayes (W, 1-1) entered in the eighth to close it out for the Dragons. Hayes went 1 2/3 scoreless innings striking out one to pick up his first win of the season.

Kolten Wong (3-for-4) extended his hitting streak to a season-high 10 games with his three-hit performance. Oscar Taveras went 3-for-5 on the night with an RBI and extended his own hitting streak to nine games. Michael Swinson went1-for-3 with a double and two walks on the night. He has now hit safely in seven games, also a high water mark for the season.

The Bandits close out the series with the Dayton Dragons on Friday. Trevor Rosenthal (3-7, 3.57) will oppose Dragons starter Daniel Renken (4-8, 3.75). First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Modern Woodmen Park on a Lujack's Friday Fireworks night. The game will also feature a Bandits camo jersey auction, courtesy of the Iowa Army National Guard, with proceeds benefitting American Legion Post 26.
