No Weekend In Columbus, Jackals Games Rescheduled
January 9, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Elmira Jackals News Release
The Elmira Jackals will not be playing Friday and Saturday night games in Columbus against the Stars as originally scheduled this weekend (January 9th and 10th). In an unusual sequence of events the United Hockey League announced today that Columbus, an expansion team in the league this season, has suspended operations and all players on the team have been granted immediate free agency. The release also stated that the League expects to present a reformatted and updated game schedule on Monday, January 12th.
In the wake of the day's excitement, the team returned to Elmira Friday evening after traveling from Richmond to Columbus all day Thursday (Jan. 8th). The unexpected weekend off allows the Jackals a chance to kick the flu bug running rampant through the team and also gives them an opportunity to run some quality practices in before next week. Elmira is back in action to finish off their stretch of road games next Wednesday night when they travel to Glens Falls for a big game against the Adirondack IceHawks, game time 7:05 PM.
The Jackals next home game is Friday, January 16th versus those same Adirondack IceHawks, 7:00 PM at the First Arena.
