
Ninth Inning Walkoff Ends 'Riders' Skid

FRISCO, TEXAS (MAY 16, 2013) - The Frisco RoughRiders beat the Midland RockHounds 5-4 Thursday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark with a walkoff single by Chih-Hsien Chiang. The victory ended the 'Riders two-game skid and split the series with Midland.
The Rockhounds (19-21) scored first in the second with a home run by David Freitas, giving Midland the 1-0 lead.
The visitors extended their lead in the third. D'Arby Myers singled to mid-center field, and then stole second to reach scoring position. A line drive by Anthony Aliotti advanced Myers to third, and a single to second extended the 'Hounds lead to 2-0.
Frisco (21-19) tied the game in the third. Guilder Rodriguez singled to center then scored on a double by Hanser Alberto. A double by Chiang later in the frame brought Herrera home to tie the game at two.
In the fourth, the 'Riders took a 3-2 lead following a leadoff infield single by Alberto. Later in the inning, Alberto stole second and was then brought home on a single by Teodoro Martinez. A leadoff triple in the fifth by Brett Nicholas followed by a triple slammed to right field by Jared Hoying extended the lead for the RoughRiders 4-2.
Midland answered in the seventh following a leadoff single by Myers. Dusty Coleman slammed an RBI triple to the right field wall and a throwing error to home plate by Herrera brought in Coleman, tying the game at four.
With bases loaded in the ninth, Chiang knocked an infield base hit to score the go-ahead run to give the Frisco the 5-4 win.
Roman Mendez (2-0) came in for the 'Riders in the eighth to earn the victory. Jeff Urlaub (2-1) suffered the defeat after he entered the game in the ninth with bases loaded and gave up the winning run.
The RoughRiders begin a new series with the San Antonio on Friday at 7 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Carlos Pimentel (4-1, 3.07 ERA) will start for Frisco while San Antonio counters with Matt Wisler (1-0, 5.40 ERA).
