Frisco Takes Control Early to Beat Missions 12-1

FRISCO, TEXAS - The Frisco RoughRiders beat the San Antonio Missions 12-1 Friday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. The 'Riders took control early, winning game one of their series.

Frisco (22-19) took an early 5-0 lead in the first inning. Guilder Rodriguez led off the frame with an infield single and was brought home on a sacrifice fly by Brett Nicholas. Later in the frame, Zach Zaneski slammed a three-run home run off Matt Wisler, and Chih-Hsien Chiang followed with a solo home run.

San Antonio (21-20) responded in the second with a hard-hit solo home run by Eddy Rodriguez to left field, closing the 'Riders lead 5-1.

The RoughRiders extended their lead in the sixth. Ryan Strausborger led off the inning with a triple to the right corner, and then Alejandro Selen an RBI triple, Frisco up 6-1.

Chiang knocked his second home run of the game in the seventh, bringing in Nicholas from second to give Frisco an 8-1 lead. With the bases loaded in the ninth, Jared Hoying slugged a grand slam to center, extending the RoughRiders lead 12-1, which was the final score.

Rangers' right-hander Justin Miller started a rehab assignment with the RoughRiders, relieving Kyle McClellan in the seventh. In his first appearance since the 2011 season, Miller pitched one inning and struck out one.

Carlos Pimentel (5-1) earned the victory pitching five innings allowing 1 run off 3 hits, while striking out 6. Wisler (1-1) allowed 5 runs on 6 hits, striking out five, suffering the defeat.

The RoughRiders continue their series with the San Antonio 7 p.m. on Saturday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Tyler Tufts (1-0, 3.38 ERA) will start for Frisco, facing Donn Roach (2-4, 5.03 ERA) for the Missions.
