Midland RockHounds News Release
The close call ended a game which featured nine runs on 26 hits, with neither team going 1-2-3 in any inning.
David Freitas opened the scoring with a solo home run, and the 'Hounds built a 2-0 lead. Frisco got the next four, taking a 4-2 lead into the seventh. D'Arby Myers singled leading off the inning and Dusty Coleman followed with a triple to right-center. The RoughRiders tried to get Myers coming home, but Odubel Herrera's throw sailed wide. Coleman, never breaking stride, came into to score on a close play at the plate, tying the game on a great hustle play. The 4-4 tie stood until the "clichïÿý syndrome" took effect in the last of the ninth.
South Division
Division-leading Corpus Christi now comes to Citibank Ballpark for a very important series (while it's only mid-May, the first half pennant race is past the halfway mark) beginning Friday night (see below). The Hooks lead San Antonio and Frisco by two games and the RockHounds by four.
Kibbles & Bits
* D'Arby Myers and Tyler Ladendorf led the Rockhounds with three hits apiece and Anthony Aliotti extended his on-base streak to 13 games.
- "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." Sorry to drop a little Charles Dickens on ya, but the line fits for RockHounds outfielder Josh Whitaker. Called up from (Advanced-A) Stockton last Saturday to fill the roster spot opened by Jeremy Barfield's promotion to (AAA) Sacramento, Josh's first Double-A hit was a tie-breaking (and eventual game-winning) solo home run Tuesday at Frisco. He then went 2-for-3 Wednesday, with a double and a bunt single that lit the fuse on a six-run fourth inning in the 'Hounds' 8-4 win (he also scored two runs in that game). In his last plate appearance, Josh was hit by a pitch on his right wrist. Initial examinations revealed a small fracture, with a follow-up exam schedule when the club returns home. In any event, the injury appears to be on which will require weeks rather than days.
- The RockHounds completed ther eight-game road trip at 4-4, dropping 3-of-4 at San Antonio before splitting four at Frisco. The 'Hounds are 5-3 against the RoughRiders for the season, including a 3-1 record against the RoughRiders at Citibank Ballpark.
- The 'Hounds now return home for a quick, four-game home stand versus the division-leading Corpus Christi Hooks. The four games include Cap Night (Friday), post-game fireworks (Saturday), Sunday afternoon Family Day (2:00 start) and two-dollar Monday.
- The RockHounds ... in the midst of playing 14-of-18 games on the road ... then travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma and Springfield, Missouri for what will be on a six-game road trip.
