Ninth Inning Rally Falls Short, Augusta Wins 7-6

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves fell to the Augusta GreenJackets 7-6 Sunday afternoon before a crowd 1,845.

The first inning started well for the Braves as three runs crossed the plate. Austin Riley, Luke Dykstra, and Juan Yepez all had RBI singles. Augusta took the lead in the fourth with six runs highlighted by a bases loaded walk, run scoring single by Migual Gomez and two RBI singles by Jean Angomas and Ashford Fulmer. The GreenJackets added another run in the fifth making the score 7-3. Rome made it a 7-4 game in the eighth on Lucas Herbert's sacrifice fly RBI. The Braves wouldn't die in the bottom of the ninth and scored two runs on a two RBI single by Luke Dykstra, but Augusta held on for the 7-6 win. Rome had 14 hits in the game and Augusta had seven.

Connor Kayden (2-1) gets the win in relief while Rome's starter Ricardo Sanchez (2-3) is charged with the loss. Ryan Halstead gets his third save.
