Erie's two game win streak came to an end on Monday afternoon at Canal Park, 4-3 to the Akron Aeros.

The Aeros struck first in the bottom of the first inning against Erie starter Matt Righter. Righter retired the first two batters of the inning before issuing back-to-back walks to Chris Gimenez and Wes Hodges. Nathan Panther followed with a base hit to bring home Gimenez for a 1-0 Akron lead.

The ‘Wolves tied the game against Akron starter David Huff in the top of the second. Jeff Frazier led off the inning with a singe and Dusty Ryan doubled off the wall in center to make it a 1-1 game. The double for Ryan was his 18th extra base hit of the season.

Erie would take the lead in the top of the third, Danny Worth walked with one out and got to second on a throwing error over to first by Huff. With two outs, Frazier singled down the right field line, scoring Worth, for a 2-1 Erie lead.

Akron tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the third inning. Hodges singled with one out and with two down, scored on a Kody Kirkland error on a ground ball by Matt Whitney.

The Aeros regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Gimenez led off with a walk and moved to third on a one-out double by Panther. Whitney singled home Gimenez for a 3-2 Akron advantage.

The score remained 3-2 into the ninth inning. Akron brought in their closer Randy Newsom who had been 13-for-13 in save opportunities. Ryan Roberson reached base on a hit by pitch to start the inning. Justin Justice grounded to the mound, but on the play, Newsom threw the ball into center. The error allowed both runners to reach safely. Max Leon was then intentionally walked to load the bases for Worth. Worth grounded to second and the only Aeros play was to retire Leon at second, allowing pinch runner Will Rhymes to score to make it a 3-3 game.

In the bottom of the ninth, Angel Castro (1-1) allowed a one-out single to Gimenez. After striking out Hodges for the second out, Panther connected on his third hit of the game, a double down the left field line, bringing home Gimenez for the game winning run.

Righter took a no-decision for Erie going 4.1 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits with four walks and a strikeout.
