Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
South Bend, Indiana - The Quad Cities River Bandits slugged a season-high 16 hits and exploded for a nine-run third inning on Saturday, as they topped the South Bend Cubs 12-7 at Four Winds Field for their third win in the six-game series.
Although Jared Dickey's first-inning, two-run double gave the Bandits their initial lead of the game, Quad Cities rattled off eight singles, including seven in-a-row, to jump further ahead in the third. Kale Emshoff, Dickey, Jean Ramirez, and Carson Roccaforte drove in the first six runs of the frame, but it was Trevor Werner who busted the inning open with a three-run blast that secured the Bandits' highest scoring inning of the season, and an 11-1 lead.
Werner's homer marks his first in High-A and came as part of a four-RBI performance- one of three multi-RBI games amongst Quad Cities' lineup (Dickey 3, Emshoff 2)- with the Royals' No. 19 prospect (MLB Pipeline) driving in the Bandits 12th run on a fielder's choice in the fifth.
Although he didn't drive in a run, Carter Jensen reached base in five of his six plate appearances and moved into top five in the league with a .472 on-base percentage on the season.
While Henry Williams struggled in his third start of the season, allowing seven runs in 4.1 innings, the bullpen came to his aid, with Oscar Rayo (2.2 IP) and Ben Sears (2.0) combining to allow just four Cubs baserunners with five strikeouts over 4.2-scoreless innings to close out the game.
Quad Cities will play for its fourth series win of the season on Sunday and sends Shane Panzini (1-0, 7.27) to the mound against South Bend's Tyler Schlaffer (0-0, 4.83). First pitch at Four Winds Field is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. ET.
