Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX 12/17/07 - The Central Hockey League announced today that Amarillo Gorillas forward David Nimmo has been named the CHL Oakley player of the week, for the period of December 10th through December 16th. It is the first such recognition of the 2007-08 season for a player from the Gorillas organization.
The rookie out of St. Albert, Alberta joined the Gorillas at the tail end of training camp this season, acquired in a trade with the Mississippi Riverkings. Nimmo joined the team having ties to several of the players on the Gorillas roster dating back to his collegiate playing days at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. Amarillo captain Keith Rowe was a former UAH Charger, as well as Gorillas rookies Shaun Arvai, Grant Selinger and Chris Martini. All five played together in college at some point.
Over the past week, Nimmo registered eight points on 3 goals and 5 assists and was a +3 overall. He notched the first game-winning goal of his career on Thursday night against the New Mexico Scorpions, scoring 2:11 into the overtime session getting assists from Matt Miller and Trevor Read. Nimmo would add a goal and an assist in Friday night's 4-3 win over the Killer Bees, and finish the weekend with a goal and two assists in Saturday evening's 6-2 victory over the Odessa Jackalopes.
With his efforts in the last three games, Nimmo became the Gorillas leading scorer with his 26 points overall (14-12-26), and tied Arizona's Mark Kolanos as the league's leading scorer among rookies.
Nimmo and the Gorillas look to continue their current four game winning streak this weekend on Friday night against the Odessa Jackalopes and Saturday night against the Corpus Christi Rayz.
