Nick Sheppard gives Aftershock win over Las Vegas
December 5, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Los Angeles Aftershock News Release
Nick Sheppard broke a 119 tie with four seconds left in regulation to give the Los Angeles Aftershock a 122-119 win over the Las Vegas Rattlers Saturday. The Aftershock got the ball on a turnover forced in the backcourt by Will Burr, and with the ABA's 3-D rule, Sheppard's follow up basket was worth 3 points and was the margin of victory for the 5-3 Aftershock.
The Rattlers started slow in their first regular season game, but quickly got into rhythm behind Dennis Carr's 8 points. Ramel Lloyd led LA with 11 points in the quarter, while Darwin Carter added 8 points himself. The second period featured Maurice Reddick and his ten points, as the Rattlers took the lead at the half 58-55.
Lou Kelly of the Rattlers got hot with 15 points in the third period and gave Vegas a 12 point lead at 75-63, but Carter and Scott Freymond sparked an Aftershock rally that cut the lead to 94-91. The final period was more Kelly and Carter and the two paced their teams down the stretch. Jason Braxton had four key steals and Derek Jones had two key baskets to tie the game at 119. Burr played the ball off Brian Lane's leg in the backcourt causing the turnover, and Sheppard grabbed the rebound off a miss and laid it in off the glass for the LA win.
Carter led all scorers with 31 points, while Sheppard finished with 23. Dion Bailey added 15 and Lloyd and Burr also finished in double figures for Los Angeles. Kelly led the Rattlers with 29, while Reddick slashed his way to 24. Carr and Dejuan Clayton finished with 19 and 13 points respectively for Los Angeles.
The Aftershock travel to Tijuana Thursday to face the Dragons. For more information and the web broadcast, visit www.laaftershock.com.
