Tacoma Navigators News Release

(TACOMA, WA)-The Tacoma Navigators professional basketball team got balanced scoring with six players tallying double figures, and held off a late surge to post a 124-109 victory over the defending ABA Western Conference Champion Bellevue Blackhawks Sunday afternoon at Mt. Tahoma High School. Former NBA and Seattle Sonics star and Navigators head coach, Vincent Askew, improved his pro record to 4-1, while 2004-05 ABA Coach of the Year, Rick Turner's season record fell to 1-4. Bellevue played without its leading scorer, Tim Ellis, who was out with a stomach virus.

Tacoma was led in scoring by Sanjay Noriega with 22, Rashaad Powell 20 and Kenny Tate 18, while Bellevue star guards Jimmie Haywood and Jim Rainwater had 36 and 31 respectively.

Coach Askew was pleased with the win, but outlined areas targeted for improvement: "We got a team victory, and I liked the point distribution, but we gave (Bellevue) too many second chances on the boards, and we need to execute our trap (defense) better," he said. "We forced seven 3-D opportunities in the second half and only converted three."

The next Tacoma Navigators home game is Saturday, December 10th versus the Southern California Legends. General admission tickets normally priced at $12.00 will be free to the first 100 patrons thanks to the sponsorship of the Puget Sound Sports Hall of Fame.
