Hockey Canada has invited Winterhawks center Nic Petan to Team Canada's selection camp for the National Men's Summer Under-18 Team for the 2012 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament. The selection camp takes place from August 3-6 in Toronto, with the tournament set for Aug. 13-18 in Piestany, Slovakia and Breclav, Czech Republic.

Petan played 61 games for Portland as 16-year-old rookie last season, posting 14 goals and 21 points for 35 points. His Winterhawks teammates voted him, along with Chase De Leo, as co-Rookies of the Year. He has previous experience playing in international competition, playing with Team Pacific in the 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Petan scored three goals in five games in the tournament.

"The selection camp is a great opportunity for Nic to test himself against the best players in his age group in Canada," said Winterhawks Head Coach & General Manager Mike Johnston. "Nic played extremely well at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, and that experience will be a great asset for him."

Canada has won the gold medal at the tournament 16 times in the 21-year history of the event, including four straight first place finishes. Winterhawks defenseman Derrick Pouliot suited up for Canada's gold medal-winning team in last year's tournament.

Season tickets for the 2012-13 season are on sale now. Visit winterhawks.com or call 503-236-HAWK to make sure you catch all the action.
