Newest Buzzards Help Snap Losing Streak

The El Paso Buzzards' newest roster additions, defenseman Mathieu Paul and forward Joey Grasso, made an early impact by scoring a goal each in Friday's 7-4 win against the San Angelo Saints. The win snapped an eight-game losing streak. Buzzards' center Jeff Scharf scored two goals and two assists and defenseman Rhett Dudley recorded four assists as more than 4,500 witnessed the victory at the El Paso County Coliseum. Buzzards' defenseman Jason Tessier contributed with a goal and an assist and right winger Derek Reynolds, with a goal and assist, capped the scoring with a breakaway goal in the third period. On Saturday, the Buzzards could not continue the momentum gained after the San Angelo game, losing to the Odessa Jackalopes 4-1. Odessa forward Travis Kennedy scored two goals and forwards Sebastien Thinel and Mike Rutter collected two assists apiece. Reynolds scored the Buzzards' lone goal on the power play. It is the fourth consecutive game Reynolds has scored a point. The loss dropped the Buzzards to 5-13-1 overall, 4-8-0 at home, trailing New Mexico by 10 points for third place.

WINDY CITY WARRIORS GUZIOR, LINNA COMING OFF INJURED LIST The Buzzards will receive some much needed offensive punch when the club activates Chicago-area left wingers Russ Guzior and Troy Linna from injured reserve. Both Buzzards wingers sustained shoulder injuries. Guzior, the Buzzards' second leading scorer with eight goals and eight assists in 14 games, has missed the last five games. Linna has been out since Nov. 20 against Lubbock. He has three goals, six assists in 12 games this year. Notes: The Buzzards fly away for a two-game road trip this weekend. In a rematch of Saturday's matchup, the Odessa Jackalopes host the Buzzards in a critical Southwest Division clash. Buzzards' head coach Craig Coxe will have his team fired up because the Buzzards have lost their last two games to Odessa. In the first matchup between these two clubs in Odessa, the Buzzards lost 3-1 with Guzior scoring the lone Buzzards goal, assisted by Scharf and Dudley in the second period. Odessa forward Mike Rutter, who has 7 goals and 13 assists in 20 games, leads the team in scoring. Odessa is 6-2-1 at home this season. Notes: The Buzzards have circled this game on their calendar to enact some revenge on the New Mexico Scorpions. The last time the Buzzards flew into Albuquerque, the Scorpions put a 10-1 stinging on the Buzzards. The Buzzards in their first matchup picked up a 4-1 victory on Halloween with Buzzards' goaltender Matt Carmichael stopping 27 of 28 shots and Scharf scoring a short-handed goal and an assist. This will be the Buzzards' second road game in New Mexico. BUZZARD OF THE WEEK Defenseman and assistant captain Rhett Dudley has been named Buzzard of the Week for the week of Nov. 25 through Dec. 1. Dudley registered five assists against San Angelo and Odessa and was a plus-4 in two games. Dudley has one goal and 11 assists in 19 games for the Buzzards.
